Section A, Number 6: Vortex

VORTEX

For this project I started with the simple brainstorming and I thought in my head, "What does this project mean to me?" This project reminded me of how nature can be spirally like water spouts and the globe. So what I got from this section and word is that I needed to made my poster or picture seem like it's turning or revolving. So I created a concepts page and that will be displayed later. I came up with concepts and made several and decided on one in particular. I decided on making a poster of a long exposure starry night. This is when the stars look like they're streaking across the sky. It creates this really cool spinning effect and I liked it and chose it because it really represents what "vortex" means.

The Beginning

This is my brainstorming page, which is front and back, and this is basically my format of how I'm going to display my work that I've completed.

As you can see I came up with several concepts and all are good, but one in particular stuck out and I chose to do that one. I chose the top, center concept because I like the simple beauty of it.

Personal Study

All of these personal study pictures either illustrate cylindrical shapes and turns or, for example, the watch illustrates the helicopter blades from the shiny reflection and the globe represents the circular roundness of the earth and sky and how the stars would look when stretched across the sky. The globe is what really pin pointed my final idea to take spark and ignite.

Color Scheme

This page that I created was dedicated to colors of my project. Easily the most difficult because you don't know what to choose. I also included an artist in my color scheme to illustrate other people's work.

Example Pictures:

Christian, Pascal. "Astrophotography: Moonset at Uluru (Ayers Rock)." Spacelapsenet RSS. Spacelapse, n.d. Web. 01 May 2015.

"Night Sky GIFs on Giphy." Giphy. N.p., n.d. Web. 01 May 2015.

These are some examples of how I want to do my project

Start Of Project

I started by opening up all of the features that I would need and prepared to get started.

I made several layers on the background and made a gradient of several colors to create a background. I also made the hill side out of free hand lines and filled it with black.

Next I added a moon and trees to the hill to give it some texture.

I had several different moon ideas. One of just putting a circle and filling it with yellow. My second idea of a moon was to make a circle with silver and drawing the features on the surface and then I got inspiration to make a circle and have other patterns on the surface but fade them out by using the gaussian blur tool on illustrator (as you can see above).

So then I have three different types of moons. I had two that were completely blurred out but on different levels and then I had a third that only had blurred features, so the actual moon itself was not blurred; it just had a gradient on it.

This one is not blurred but only has a gradient on it.

This one is blurred mildly with a gradient.

This one is majorly blurred with a gradient.

This is when I started to make my long exposure looking stars.

I had several ideas and I changed them a lot.

I finally came up with the idea of making the star streaks abstract, so I took the line took and free handed it and it turned out pretty cool so I kept it.

Final Finished Project

This is what my final came to be:

MY FINAL PROJECT DONE AND FINISHED I HOPE YOU LIKE IT.
I had fun with this one because it was free and open. I experimented and this reminds me of a vortex by having that cylindrical look leading to a fixed point from one person's perspective.
